MAXIM MAGAZINE'S A DAY IN THE LIFE OF JOHNNY KNOXVILLE - COJO

I had a fun time writing this one, but didn't think about the logistics of having to draw Johnny Knoxville sitting in a bathtub of razorblades or getting kicked in the nuts by a horse until I actually had to draw them.
I got to throw myself into the strip as a McDonalds manger in panels 4 and 5. Maxim writer Charles Cox was my employee. I drew my friend INK into panel 7, and my ex's sister and kids into panels 7 and 8. It's great fun to be able to toss inside jokes into drawings that are seen by millions.
I didn't scan the finished piece, as you can see by the generic type layout (they liked to use a comic font they had on file). Also in the last panel the can of dog food says "ALPO" but was changed at the last minute by order of the legal department. It went to print with the label reading "DOG FOOD." Not the first time legal had me change something, and not the last either.
An interesting story about shooting photo reference for this piece. I was walking in the East Village and saw an actual Hells Angels club. I had my camera on me and thought it would be great to have a shot of the outside of an actual authentic club to use for reference for the second to last panel where the Hells Angels beat the shit out of Knoxville and throw him out of the club.
Anyway, I took a few shots and some of the Angels noticed me and came running across the street yelling. I didn't realize they have rules about Hells Angels members and their clubs being photographed. They told me this in not so nice words.
I assured them that I was just a tourist and their club looked cool. They let me live and luckily keep my film, considering I had shot a lot of other reference on it earlier in the day.
All well and good, but here's the freaky thing. When I got the film developed (old school camera) the two shots I had taken of the Hells Angels club came back solid black. . . creepy.
